In 2023, International Women’s Day will be held 8th March.
International Women’s Day is a day to globally celebrate women. It’s an opportunity to note the historical achievements of women and an occasion to celebrate the progress made towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.
International Women’s Day also provides a day to support women in finding the resources that will lead to a better, and more equal future.
The day is usually celebrated with networking events, conferences and seminars with inspirational women taking to the stage to share their stirring journeys and to help women connect with resources that can further their empowerment.
Hearing from an inspiring female speaker for International Women’s Day helps women feel more inspired, connected and resourceful.
History of International Women’s Day
Women have been oppressed throughout history. In the last 100 years progress has been made to attain equality, but there is still a way to go.
In 1909, the first National Women’s Day was observed in the America in accordance with a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. In 1910 an International Women’s Conference was organized by German suffragist, Clara Zetkin.
Today, International Women’s Day brings together governments, charities, many businesses, groups, and individuals with the common goal of supporting women’s empowerment.
The event happens on 8th March (in the Western calendar) because back in 1917, in Russia, women workers in Petrograd held a mass strike and demonstration demanding Peace and Bread.
